Beyond Eden - Municipal Gallery - Group Show

Saturday & Sunday October 9-10, 2010

Sat: 6pm-11pm - Sun: 1pm-6pm

LA Municipal Art Gallery in Barnsdall Park

4800 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90027

The second edition of Beyond Eden will be hosted by the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park this coming October. Beyond Eden is a multi-gallery event celebrating the new contemporary art scene in Los Angeles.

After the overwhelming success of last year's Beyond Eden exhibition which drew over 5,000 people over the course of the weekend, the organizers are keeping the focus of the event on the new contemporary art movement. This genre of art has been building momentum and a patron base in Los Angeles for the past several decades and is finally starting to receive mainstream recognition from major institutions and publications the world over.

Beyond Eden will showcase the works of a half dozen galleries and will be held inside the beautiful confines of the historic Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery during the weekend of October 9th and 10th with an opening night celebration planned for Saturday, October 9th. Participating galleries include Carmichael Gallery, Copro Gallery, Crewest, La Luz De Jesus, LeBasse Projects, and Thinkspace.

In addition to the works on display from the participating galleries, Beyond Eden will also feature a silent auction to benefit the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) along with live painting demonstrations throughout the gallery inside and out presented by C.A.V.E. Gallery as well as a special showcase celebrating underground art event Cannibal Flower's 10 Year Anniversary.

Founded in 1951, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is a historic 10,000 square foot facility located on the sprawling grounds of Olive Hill in the Barnsdall Art Park. The park overlooks the city of Los Angeles and is also home to the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock House and Arts Complex. Under the Department of Cultural Affairs, the LAMAG is the premier city-run gallery that focuses on contemporary art, particularly the work of living Southern California artists.

Please join us for Alcove Gallery's 7 Year Anniversary!

Very proud to say we have officially been through an amazing trek. Seven is one of those numbers that really speaks for itself. On many levels it touches on a spritual note that cleanses ,strengthens, and possibly gives new life. Water has many of those similiar parallels to the properties of the 7 numerology. Water is the most abundant compound on Earth's surface, constituting about 70% of the planet's surface. Sadly, we have only one planet in which we must try to protect and cherish. This event focuses on the richness of water and really anything it should encounter.

Costa Mesa, CA (March 9, 2010)— The Box contemporary art gallery is proud to present Fathom, featuring the work of artist Amanda Chakravarty, Anna Judd, Michael Pukac, Tibor, and Stephanie Han Windham.  This collection of original works will open at the Costa Mesa gallery on Saturday May 15, 2010, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The exhibition will run through Friday, July 2, 2010.

“It has been said that we know more of the surface of the moon than that of the ocean”, says curator Johnny Sampson.  “With this as our starting point, Fathom becomes an exhibition exploring the depths, not only of the deep sea, but also of the human condition—it is an introspective journey which offers a glimpse at the mysteries which lie beneath the surface”.  Playing on the word’s meaning of six feet deep, Fathom also hints at man’s mortality and his struggle for understanding and significance.  In this exhibition presented by The Box gallery, serene creatures as well as fantastic monsters hint at both the playful and darker aspects of the psyche.  “The ocean is a source of boundless inspiration”, says Sampson, “Where the leviathan lurks, so also swims the clownfish”.  Fathom is a show of joy and wonder, dreams and nightmares, and contemporary art work at it’s highest, and deepest, levels of accomplishment.

As a cancer fighter / survivor, Illinoisan artist Amanda Chakravarty makes joyful paintings upon wood panels, allowing the grain of the wood to provide a water-like setting for her anthropomorphized fish creatures.

Santa Ana artist Anna Judd’s photo-realistic oils are both tranquil and provocative, capturing a meditative moment in stunning detail.

Michael Pukac’s alluring figurative fantasies combine both whimsy and narrative.  Employing metallic and acrylic paints, he depicts the heroic feminine in vivid illumination.

Self-taught Southern Californian artist Tibor’s mixed media “faux-sils” utilize both copper and acrylic to create powerful fossil-like images

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Stephanie Han Windham’s serene and uplifting acrylics combine strong color and subject to form enchanting work of sublime depth and passion.

The Box gallery is a collaboration between curator and director Johnny Sampson and Splitends owner and stylist Christopher Hall.  It is a multi-use space, combining a minimal boutique salon with a contemporary art gallery. Located in the heart of the Costa Mesa SoBeCa district at 765 Saint Clair Ste B, The Box gallery and Splitends offer an unconventional, progressive venue for art and style. For more information, log onto www.boxboxbox.com or call 714-724-4633.

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 27th 8pm-2am

ArtWalk Night: Thursday, April 8, 2010 (Pukac will be live painting for the Artwalk)

$15 door on opening night

Temple of Visions
719 S. Spring St. Los Angeles, CA

Temple of Visions, LA’s first gallery dedicated to the new global visionary art movement, presents its provocative new show: ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS/ALIEN TECHNOLOGIES, an exhibition contemplating the origins of mankind and our place in the universe.

Recent scientific discoveries, academic acceptance of once preposterous concepts, new insights into ancient texts and artifacts, multiple government disclosures, and overwhelming credible accounts open the doors of perception to new ideas on man’s evolutionary pilgrimage toward the coming new age. Temple of Visions has assembled a group of world class artists and exhibitors to explore these ideas in an open, creative forum.

Curator Jimmy Bleyer sees validity and resonance in these new concepts, which cast doubt on the traditional hold on our notions of history by academics, political entities and organized religion. Bleyer says candidly,” I’ve been consistently blown away by new, tightly researched models of civilization’s beginnings on Earth, by recently discovered and deciphered artifacts and by my personal experiences with phenomena outside our accepted perception. It’s high time we talk about these things openly.”

To that end, lectures and workshops addressing the subject are being scheduled throughout the 2.5 month run. The space will also host art, music, visionary culture and community building events.

An event that will “RAWk the Boat”!
A Fundraiser for RAWcross America aboard the RMS Queen Mary
Friday, June 18th 2010 |  Long Beach, California

LONG BEACH, CA – For a year now, RAW:natural born artists has been serving Southern Californian creative communities by showcasing up-and-coming artists from all artistic genres: visual arts, film, music, fashion, hair and makeup design, and performing art. After a year of discovering and showcasing extremely talented artists in local neighborhoods, RAW plans to move outside of California with the goal of unifying artists everywhere and growing the creative community at-large … RAWcross America.  RAW’s directors Heidi Luerra and Matthew Klahorst will be visiting 15 major metropolitan cities this fall during a two month cross country road trip. The organizers estimate the total trip and expansion will cost around $15-20k. Luerra jokes “We’ll be eating tuna from a can and pawning our most precious items to make this happen”.

As part of an effort to raise funds in anticipation for the nationwide launch, RAW:natural born artists is hosting an evening of the arts aboard the historical Queen Mary in Long Beach, accepting donations from attending guests. Along with a sponsored cocktail and hors d’oeuvre hour, guest can enjoy short film screenings from local independent filmmakers as well as an all night art and photo gallery. “RAWk the Boat” will present musical performances by 19 year old singer songwriter, Angela Mukul, Pop/Rock band, The Victors, and Orange County bred hip hop performance powerhouse, APoetNomadAli; fashion shows featuring clothing lines from designers Dane Lenon, Alexander Simon Peuchot, and Popavina; and a performance by Collabor8 dance group will cap the evening.

The night will also host vendor booths including accessories, clothing and crafts by local indie artisans provided by Graffiti Beach (GraffitiBeach.org). RAW will curate a silent auction featuring the art, jewelry, and one-of-a-kind dresses donated by over 30 RAW artist alums. The silent auction will benefit the RAWcross America road trip.

"Revisions 2010" - Ego-Logical Art - Group Show

Saturday, April 24, 2010 - 7-10pm

Eco-LogicalART Gallery

4829 West Pico Blvd, LA, CA

Los Angeles, CA. To kick-off the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Peter Schulberg and the nonprofit Eco-LogicalART Gallery are taking their “green” art public in a big way with ReVisions/10 and EartH.  The exhibits will debut April 24th at 7pm.  ReVisions  features an original 14 x 48 foot art piece by artist Leeann Goya. Painted on a recycled vinyl billboard, and installed on a billboard directly over Eco-LA, the piece will be revealed with a live curtain drop at 8 pm. Once unveiled, the eco-themed work will be seen 35,000 times daily, and a million times by month's end.

In addition to the billboard art, a free and open to the public interior gallery show includes works by two dozen renowned local artists who have fashioned over 100 cutting edge creations from recycled and up-cycled media. The event also features "green" accessories for sale in the Eco-LA "Recovery Room", eco-art demos, music--and libations. Plus the ever-hip Kogi taco truck will be on-site from 6-9 pm serving up their “street” high cuisine.

The premiere will also present EartH (Eco Art Helps) an exhibit of art on recycled billboard, created by the youth of Los Angeles. Working off a prompt of “The World I See/The World I Hope Could Be” the exhibit is painted by participants from an array of high schools and inner-city arts organizations.  Mounted in a grid on the exterior of the Eco-LogicalART gallery, the 80 canvas installation will be revealed with its own curtain drop at 7:30 pm.  Later in the evening members of the LA based youth Street Poets organization will present a spoken word performance riffing off the “World I See/Hope Could Be” theme.

With so many elements, ReVisions/10 and EartH are a perfect fit for Eco-LA founder Schulberg, who is drawn to guerilla style hybrid performance/art happenings. Since 2007 his billboard art exhibits have been seen over 40 million times across the skylines of Los Angeles and the Bay Area.  But he's excited to present Eco-LA's spring "green" event. And though the city is known as the car capital of the world, Schulberg offers up an excellent excuse to leave the wheels at home. "We've got great food thanks to our friends at Kogi, cool public art on a billboard, sidewalk youth art with EartH and the Street Poets. All in all, it should make for a perfect Earth Day."

To learn more about Eco-LogicalART please visit ournew website at: www.eco-logicalart.org.
Show opening: 7-10 pm, APRIL 24TH at the Eco-LogicalART Gallery, 4829 West Pico Blvd, LA, CA 90019 (just east of La Brea)  310.525.0676  email eco-la@sbcglobal.net

Pukac will be exhibiting his series of recycled skate decks!
